This edition of King Tide has a lot to offer. We take a look at some recent "come heres" — not what you might be thinking — explore samplers and the role they played in the education and memory of young girls, and dive into the history sailing to the Shore this summer.
I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with a gentle giant, George McMath. WESR Weather Watcher Andy Dunton shares a piece about trips to Hog Island, where his family once called home. I always look forward to Andy’s reports each morning, and as I read his story, I could hear him telling it. It felt as though he had pulled a page straight from McMath’s book.
Another conversation I enjoyed was with Eleanor Bradford Foley. I plan to release that interview as a podcast, her beautiful accent needs to be preserved for posterity. Retired Circuit Court Judge Glen Tyler shares the story of the Virginia law office he built in Parksley.
You’ll also read about a 30-year-old Eastern Shore business that started in a backyard, and step back 250 years to a time when musket and cannon fire echoed along Cherrystone Creek.
And, perhaps a bit self-servingly, we pay tribute to one of our family businesses, the Whispering Pines.
We hope you enjoy this edition of King Tide Magazine from Eastern Shore Radio.
